Jazz & Lyrical

Jazz Classes

This is a fast paced class that includes instruction in turns, jumps, flexibility, and choreography. The students do a warm up working on jazz technique, posture and coordination. Students can start jazz as young as age five and can continue on into festival competitions and performance jazz. Each teacher has their own unique combination of styles however the basic techniques are the same and can be applied to any style of Jazz.

Apparel: All jazz students require tight fitting clothing such as a bodysuit, dance shorts or jazz pants, and black jazz shoes. Hair to be worn in a ponytail or bun.

Jazz 5/6 - (45 minute) - Jazz for 5-6 year olds. Ballet is strongly recommended to take in conjunction with this class. Must be 5 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Jazz 7/8- Jazz for 7-8 year olds. Ballet is strongly recommended to take in conjunction with this class. Must be 7 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Jazz 9/10- Ballet or Lyrical are strongly recommended to take in conjunction with this class. Must be 9 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

 

Jazz 11/12- Jazz for 11-12 year olds. Must be 11 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Jazz Teen- Jazz for teens 13 and up with previous experience . Must be 13 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Jazz Tech- Jazz tech class for the Pre-Intermediate as well as students wishing to take a tech class and are over 10 years old.

 

DRESS CODE:

All jazz students require a bodysuit, dance shorts or jazz pants, and black jazz shoes. hair to be worn in a ponytail or bun.

 

FUN FACT ABOUT JAZZ! Jazz dance is the performance dance technique and style that emerged in America in the early twentieth century. Jazz dance began as an African American social dance that had roots in African slave dances. Over time, a clearly defined jazz genre emerged, changing from a street dance to a theatrical dance performed on stage due to the work by artists such as Jack Cole (choreographer)Bob FosseEugene Louis Faccuito and Gus Giordano.

 

 

 

 

 

Lyrical Classes

Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques

Lyrical 6/9 - Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical for 6-9 year olds with 0-1 years experience. Must be 6 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Lyrical 10/12 Level 1- Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical for 10-12 year olds with 0-1 years experience. Must be 10 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Lyrical 10/12 Level 2- Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical for 10-12 year olds with 2+ years experience. Must be 10 by December 31. Class runs September-June.

Lyrical Teen Level 1- Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. This class is for ages 13 and up with 0-1 years experience. Must be 13 by December 31st. Ballet is strongly recommended in conjunction with this class. Class runs September-June.

Lyrical Teen Level 2- Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. This class is for ages 13 and up with 2+ years experience. Must be 13 by December 31. Ballet is strongly recommended in conjunction with this class. Class runs September-June.

All Lyrical students require a bodysuit, and dance shorts or jazz pants and beige/nude jazz shoeshair to be worn in a ponytail or bun.

 

Contemporary

A free style of dancing that is not as restricted as classical ballet; movements are expressive of feelings, emotions and abstract ideas. We work on connection, improving, floor work and more.

 

Contemporary Level 1- Contemporary dance incorporates versatility and improvisation with Ballet and Jazz elements. Must be 10 by December 31. Class runs September-June. 

Contemporary Tech- A class to focus on contemporary movement and improvisation. Class runs September-June 

DRESS CODE:

Students require a bodysuit, dance shorts or jazz pants, and foot undies. Long hair to be worn in a ponytail or bun.
