The Recreational Program

Seymour Dance offers recreational classes for all levels and all age ranges. These classes focus on building technique, teamwork and learning choreography. We offer non-competitive classes in Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, Acro, Hip Hop, Breakdancing and more! This program is geared towards students looking to dance in a safe fun and engaging environment. There are no pre-requisites for the classes in this program. However, if you are unsure what level or class will be the best fit, you are welcome to have your dancer attend a drop-in class for an assessment by our teaching faculty!

Performances

Our recreational dancers perform in one large-scale performance at our yearly June recital. There are also additional opportunities to perform in our community which could include but are not limited to Holiday at the Shipyards, West Van Days and Blueridge Good Neighbour Day.

Breaking, also called breaking or b-boying/b-girling, is an athletic style of street dance. While diverse in the amount of variation available in the dance, breakdancing mainly consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes. Breakdancing is typically set to hip-hop, funk, and breakbeat music, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns.
