Seymour Dance Presents Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker!

For over 40 years, Seymour Dance has proudly performed Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, a beloved holiday tradition. This classical ballet has become a cornerstone of our dance community, featuring timeless music and vibrant costumes.

Participation Details:

Participation in The Nutcracker is optional and involves additional rehearsals as well as a supplemental fee. Rehearsals begin in September, with performances scheduled for December. All rehearsals take place on Sundays and are separate from weekly ballet classes. 

Please ensure you’ve read all information about the required schedule and associated costs before signing up.

Ballet Grade 1 and Up: Rehearsals begin Sunday, September 21st 

Ballet 3-4 Years, Pre-Primary, and Primary: Rehearsals begin Sunday, November 2

Eligibility to Participate:

• Open to all dancers enrolled in our Ballet Program.

• Dancers in Ballet Grade 2 and higher must be enrolled in at least two graded ballet classes per week to participate.

• Dancers aged 3-4 years, Pre-Primary, Primary, and Grade 1 must be enrolled in at least one ballet class per week.

• Dancers in Ballet Grade 6, Ballet Teen and higher must attend auditions in order to participate in Nutcracker. All corps and lead roles are auditioned.

 

Nutcracker Auditions: for dancers Ballet Grade 6, Ballet Teen and higher

• Sunday, September 14: 10:00am-12:00pm

• Instructions:

• Please arrive 30 minutes prior (10:00am) to warm up and receive your number 

• no parents allowed inside the studio - drop off only 

• Must be in proper dance attire (black uniform)  with hair tied back in a bun 

• Bring pointe shoes if you are on pointe at an intermediate or higher level (not beginner)

• Audition Cost: $30 + tax audition fee charged to your account on September 15th 

Rehearsal & Commitment Expectations:

Participation in The Nutcracker requires a full commitment. Given the limited rehearsal time, it is crucial that dancers attend all scheduled rehearsals.

• Rehearsal #1 Sunday, September 21st: Regular Rehearsal

• Rehearsal #2 Sunday, September 28th: Regular Rehearsal

• Rehearsal #3 Sunday, October 5th: Regular Rehearsal

• Sunday, October, 12th: No Rehearsal (Thanksgiving Weekend)

• Rehearsal #4 Sunday, October 19th: Regular Rehearsal

• Rehearsal #5 Sunday, October 26th: Regular Rehearsal

• Rehearsal #6 Sunday, November 2nd: 3&4 Year Old, Pre-Primary, Primary start Rehearsals

• Rehearsal #7 Sunday, November 9th: Regular Rehearsal

• Rehearsal #8 Sunday, November 16th: Regular Rehearsal

• Rehearsal #9 Sunday, November 23rd: Regular Rehearsal 

• Rehearsal #10 Sunday, November 30th: Mandatory Dress Rehearsal @ Seymour Dance

 

Nutcracker Weekend Rehearsals & Performances:

 

• Saturday, December 6th: Mandatory On-Stage Rehearsal @ Centennial Theatre (Keep the entire day open) and Nutcracker Performance Show 1

• Sunday, December 7th: Mandatory On-Stage Rehearsal @ Centennial Theatre (morning)

• Sunday, December 7th: The Nutcracker Performances Shows 2,3,4 @ Centennial Theatre

• Monday, December 8th: The Nutcracker Performances Shows 5,6 @ Centennial Theatre

 

Mandatory Dress Rehearsals:

 

• Sunday, November 30th @ Seymour Dance (This is a full dress rehearsal but will NOT be held at the theatre. Attendance is mandatory—dancers who miss this rehearsal will not be permitted to perform.) Full schedule TBA. 

• Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th @ Centennial Theatre (This rehearsal is also mandatory; failure to attend will result in disqualification from the performance.)

 

Performance Dates:

• Saturday, December 6th @ Centennial Theatre

• Sunday, December 7th @ Centennial Theatre

• Monday, December 8th @ Centennial Theatre

All performances will take place at Centennial Theatre on Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver.
